TDP leader stages crucifixion-like protest against Chandrababu Naidu's arrest

Former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA, Venkata Sivarama Raju, enacted a crucifixion-like demonstration demanding party chief Chandrababu Naidu's release.

Former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA V Venkata Sivarama Raju enacted a crucifixion-like demonstration briefly near Bhimavaram in Andhra Pradesh, in protest against the arrest of party leader N Chandrababu Naidu, police said on Monday.

The Former Undi MLA protested in this fashion in the village, donning black clothes and chaining his hands and feet to a T-shaped wooden block.

“He (Raju) protested for 15–20 minutes and wound up his demonstration as told by police. And he was also not feeling well,” Bhimavaram Sub-Divisional Police Officer B Srinath said, adding that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

A few TDP supporters accompanied Raju by chanting slogans and waving placards, demanding the release of the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister who is currently detained in the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison for his alleged role in the Skill Development Corporation “scam” case.

Earlier on Monday, Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed three bail petitions filed by Chandrababu Naidu in different cases. Naidu had moved the court seeking regular bail petitions in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road and Angallu attack cases and an anticipatory bail petition in the FiberNet case.

Currently, Naidu is under judicial remand in Rajamahendravaram central prison for allegedly misappropriating funds from the Skill Development Corporation, which resulted in a purported loss of over Rs 300 crore to the state exchequer.

was talking about this with friends but i also think having a good sense of when a story is headed in a direction you don't like is important for three reasons:

It helps you practice critical thinking skills / viewing something from a more objective and perhaps realistic lens. I have shows / stuff where even though I thought a story/plot decision or ship was a bad idea and it wasn't my preference, and even when I thought another story decision might make more sense, I was still able to recognize that "hey, this story is most likely going to go in this direction because of xyz" / setup and framing

This also means you can have an easier time leaving and/or getting out of a story when it begins to disappoint you / it can help build realistic expectations regarding the material in order for you to have a better time if you do stay.

And most importantly, perhaps, it just makes it all the more rewarding and exciting when you recognize a story is going in same the direction that you've hoped it would, because that is chef's kiss lemme tell you

An interesting observation from the book regarding Viren and his views on the other leaders:

When Viren enters the gazebo and regards the other leaders its clear he doesn’t hold a good or even neutral opinion on any of them except maybe Fareeda. However he especially has a crude opinion on King Ahling.

Viren describes King Ahling several times as being “not known for his wisdom” and “lacking in intellect.”

Overall its clear Viren looks down at the King of Neolandian a LOT.

And yet by the end of the meeting, when Aanya still declines to join the fight causing the other leaders to rescind their allegiance, King Ahling is who Viren turns to in desperation.

It also is huge irony that Neolandia is the first to respond after the assassination attempts, being lead by King Ahling’s son.

This is a pattern Viren had, belittling and undermining people but ultimately relying on them to accomplish his goals. He’s done it to his own son, to the crow master, and even to Kings and Queens.

Yuvagalam CD launch

The CD was launched on the occasion of the completion of 150 days of the Yuvagalam Pada Yatra on Sunday at the Marriott Hotel in the city of Philadelphia, America. In this program, Telugu Desam Party leader TD Janardhan said that the Nara Lokesh Padayatra has received unprecedented support and good response from people of all walks of life. On the occasion of the completion of 150 days of Yuvagalam, a CD containing the main scenes of the Padayatra has been released by NRI Telugudesam of Dallas city.Leader Srinivasa Rao said Kommine was created.

In this program, Kommineni said that Lokesh is aware of the problems of the people in the Yuvagalam Padayatra and Chandrababu has the ability to solve the problems of the people and make the state a poverty-free state when the Telugu Desam Party comes to power...

Seen some discussion on this and I think the big takeaway being "Rayla is taking Runaan's place here as the leader" is underselling it in some ways, tbh, since I think it's a lot more indicative of how S7 is going to challenge Rayla at her core of whether she's like Runaan, and what version(s) of Runaan that means.

Rayla has always had similarities to her father / mentor. Keeping secrets about her own harm, the emphasis on sacrifice, her view of herself as an assassin, goodbye kisses to their lovers, leaving people at home to protect them, her little silver pauldron that matches his, wielding his bow-blade in S5, and her ponytail hair clasp, etc etc. Some of the lessons she's learned from Runaan have been helpful, allowing her to protect herself and her friends; some of them have been less so.

I've talked about this before but the bulk of the characters in TDP have a 'shadow self' for lack of a better term—a person in the narrative/history or in their family that they are struggling with whether to be like, if not actively striving against it (Janai with Queen Aditi, Ezran with Harrow, etc). However, it's a bit more complicated than that. As noted in previous metas, Callum's parallels to Viren have gone from being indicative of a mostly negative path (dark magic use to the point of corruption, Aaravos' manipulations, etc) to also indicating a positive path: breaking away from Aaravos and dark magic (5x09) and doing more heroic deeds (6x08) because you refuse to sacrifice the people around you. It's shifted from "Callum is like Viren" to "Callum is like both of Viren's arcs, bad and eventually good," as when he inevitably breaks away from Aaravos' hold, he will ultimately be paralleling his main foil in a positive way as well.

It's a similar matter for Rayla with Runaan, with the way Runaan parallels Viren being a fun bonus, down to being resurrected and deeply regretful of how they've treated their child(ren).

Is she going to be Runaan the assassin, who keeps their oaths/promises no matter what even if that means sacrificing everything they hold dear, including their family? Who believes that the mission is too far gone now for a detour, or to go off track entirely? The Runaan who put duty over love and tried to kill someone he loved, even if it ended up destroying himself, too?

Or is she going to be the Runaan who regrets doing so, who is lost but found through love, who is brought back and brings others back? Who carries Runaan's bravery and guidance but sheds the lesson of sacrifice at all cost, of yourself, of others? And instead is devoted to preserving life, rather than taking it?

CALLUM: Rayla's brave. She saves people. [...] Rayla is selfless, strong, and caring. That's what makes her a hero. That's what makes her Rayla.

As Runaan and Rayla have both had time to unlearn their previous mindsets and build upon new ones, I think they will continue to challenge each other to reject the duty > love mindset, and that they've had to embrace a healthier, more balanced view of love and sacrifice for themselves and its impact on others around them.
